Storytelling

Product teardown

A series of exploratory meetings where the client tells their story through conversation, pitch, slide, and anecdotes. Establish a baseline through the product story. Best told in the founder/ product manager/ innovator’s voice. It’s the narrative as it stands today.

Story context

Good stories are driven by characters we can relate to. Uncover what your story is really about and who it’s for using the Story Checklist, Audience Map, and Hero Formula.

Story structure

Without drama in a story, it might as well be dead on arrival. Recognize that your audience has something they’re struggling with, and you have the magic potion to help them. Identify their Motive Triangle, map out the Product Arc of your story, create your Story Line and begin to develop the Hook that will pull them in.

Story board

Every good story has a clear structure. A flow and rhythm that draws the audience in and carries them on a journey. This is a three-act story consisting of the Hook, Meat, and Payoff. Here, we lay out the major plot points of the story, scene by scene, beat by beat, getting detailed and specific about what you are showing.

Message platform

A good product story introduces your audience to a world. As important, is the messaging that derives from that. Build the major elements that are foundational to the message platform. This would include specific language, visual grammar, and an initial activation plan.

“How to build the story of your product.”

Products sell because of stories. And a product story is far more than a list of features and benefits. If you get the story right, people repeat it. If you get the story right, people imagine a better version of themselves.

A product story is, by necessity, science fiction. It’s a story of a future world, that’s better than today. By definition, that product story has the buyer and end-user as the hero/ protagonist. The product is a magic bean that dispels the troubles and fears of our hero.

Product Storytelling is here to help you map out your narrative and tell it in a simple, memorable way. It uncovers how your product will impact your customers’ lives.
